RIBADU DOES A WHODINI ?

By far the biggest news last week was the reports of former EFCC boss Nuhu Ribadu's visit to the home of the late Gani Fawehinmi to console with the departed luminary's family. In fact it was further reported that he even visited the mortuary were he paid his last respects in a more direct, physical and intimate manner.

Considering the fondness Gani had for Nuhu, the extreme emotions dispayed by the former EFCC man should not surprise anybody. However, the point also is that most of us actually thought Nuhu was on exile to escape from some imminent danger or answer to certain issues raised by his primary employers.

When the news of Nuhu's visit first broke, the initial report was that the security agencies were on the look out for him,but that has since changed.Today's papers now report that nobody was ever interested in arresting him since he was never declared wanted in the first place.

When confronted by journalists about his bold actions,Nuhu was qoted as saying,'I am fearless, but not reckless'.

CRY! CRY! CRY ! GANI FAWEHINMI IS GONE !

The very sad news just hit me from TVC that the erstwhile living legend of the Nigerian bar, Gani Fawehinmi is gone. Long before he was belatedly conferred with the garb of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the vast majority of Nigerians had long conferred on Gani the honour of 'Senior Advocate of the Masses (SAM)', on account of his unflinching fight for the basic rights of the people.
At this time that the lobsided moral values in the country has been brought to the fore once again with the banking crisis, the priceless value of men like Gani, who lived sacrificially, spoke sincerely and fearlessly, and
showed that genuine hardwork pays, cannot but be appreciated.
If we genuinely want Nigeria to progress, our leaders and indeed our people must learn to emulate Gani's principles and lifestyle.
May his soul rest in peace.
